Dog Licenses/Animal Control

All dogs are required to be licensed. Contact Lenawee County Sheriff's Office with Animal Complaints: Animal Control Officer Borton at (517) 263-0524, ext. 461. Check below for Rollin Township's Dog Control Ordinance 14 (adopted in 2015) and for more information on Lenawee County Animal Control Regulations.

2024 Dog Licenses
Licenses may be purchased by mail or in person at the Rollin Township Hall (P.O. Box 296, Manitou Beach, MI 49253), beginning December 1st, or at the Lenawee County Treasurer's Office (Old Courthouse Building, 301 N Main St, Adrian, MI 49221).

For licenses purchased from Rollin Township, checks need to be made out to "Rollin Township Treasurer". Checks for licenses purchased in Adrian should be made payable to the "Lenawee County Treasurer".  Licenses for dogs that have never been licensed must be obtained in person.

A current rabies certificate (or a copy) must be presented every year. Licenses will not be renewed without the Rabies Certificate.

If ordering by mail, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Cost of License:   Dec. 1- last day in February
                             Dogs spayed or neutered: $10 each
                             Dogs not spayed or neutered - $15 each
                             Service Dog, guard dogs, leader dogs, or K-9 - No charge, upon proof provided
                             (Emotional support dogs are not fee-free)

Cost of License beginning Mar. 1
                             Dogs spayed or neutered: $20 each
                             Dog not spayed or neutered: $30 each
                             Puppy (less than 4 months) - $0; 4 months or older - $15 if spayed/neutered, $30 if intact
                             Service Dog, guard dogs, leader dogs, or K-9 - No charge, upon proof provided
                             (Emotional support dogs are not fee-free)

Animal Control Regulations
 Taken from the Animal Control Ordinance adopted by Rollin Township in October, 2015.
  • Owner Defined- Any person who keeps or harbors any dog or has it in his care or who permits any dog to remain about any premises owned or occupied by him.
  • Number of Dogs Allowed- It shall be unlawful for any person to own, possess, shelter, keep or harbor more than three dogs over six months of age at any one time any one time or in any premise. This excludes dogs being kept by a veterinarian, licensed kennel. Helper, military and police dogs are included in this count.
  • Dogs to be Leashed- It is unlawful for the owner of any dog to allow such a dog to go beyond the premises of the owner unless the dog is held securely on a leash not more than twelve (12) feet in length and held at all times by some person over the age of ten (10) years.
  • Barking Dogs- It is unlawful for any person to own a dog which by loud and frequent barking, howling, growling or any other noise, causes annoyance to the people of the neighborhood.
  • Vicious Dogs- It is unlawful for any person to own a fierce or vicious dog. Any dog shall be deemed vicious which has bitten a person or domestic animal without provocation.
  • Penalties for Violations- Any person violating any provision of these ordinances shall be deemed responsible for a civil infraction. Penalties may be imposed together with all costs, including actual attorney fees, up to the entry of judgment.
